Mouthguard Information

Fitting A Mouth Guard with Braces

  1. Boil water. Also, fill another container with cold water. Remove boiled water from heat and place next to cold water. Let boiled water stand for 30 seconds. Place mouth guard in HOT water for 20 seconds.
  2. After 20 seconds, using spoon remove the mouth guard from the HOT water and dip into COLD water for 1 second. IMMEDIATELY place guard in mouth with the dip of mouth guard centered on the upper lip.
  3. When the mouth guard is centered, bite gently in to the guard and press gently against the front and backs of teeth. DO NOT form mouth guard tightly to teeth, leaving room for braces and teeth to move.
  4. Leave the mouth guard in mouth till fit, then remove and place under running cold water.

Helpful Hints:

  • If you do not get a good fit the first time the mouth guard can be reformed, repeat above procedure.
  • To clean, rinse under cool water and brush with tooth brush. DO NOT use hot/boiling water.
  • If mouth guard is too large, trim off ends of mouth guard BEFORE fitting.

**Additional mouth guards may be purchased at your local Sporting Goods Store.**
